How We Got Started

Hello Hummus got its start in the kitchen of a local restaurant, where the chefs were turning out a roasted vegetable hummus about which customers raved.

A family business from the start, we tested recipes, expanded the flavor offerings and joined the first farmers market in 2013. Market Square customers in downtown Pittsburgh lined up to taste and buy; Hello Hummus now offers more than 15 flavors (and growing) in the top regional markets.

Our primary hummus maker, Zouhair, loves the fresh, growing markets and connects farmers and specialty food makers with new markets in and around Pittsburgh. "As a child, I would walk to the markets each day with my Mother - tasting, sampling and buying the freshest vegetables, herbs, olives, spices and more. I'd run bread dough to the community oven and back again when it was freshly baked...so many lasting memories that helped to form my love of fresh, local food today."

With a growing customer base and a desire for other fresh products, Hello Hummus expanded its line with spreads, mini chopped salads, quinoa-based greens and grains, and cold fruity soups. One of our favorite spreads to make and sell is cumin carrot spread - delicious with sandwiches and wraps, and a perfectly healthy condiment. Our mini chopped salads include simple seedy slaw, beet salad with carrot, everything quinoa, and kale cranberry quinoa. And, there's nothing better than topping grilled fish with our Just Peachy or Mango Black Bean toppings.

We are passionate about our products. And, we are grateful for our customers and everyone who supports local food. Hello Hummus is committed to bringing fresh products to each and every market. We believe in sourcing as many ingredients as possible from the local farming community.
